Today I find that many people simply write everything without a capital letter. Their names, the names of their city and even the name of their country are in minuscule letters rather than properly formed with capitals where needed.
I don’t like to see things like
john smith,
123 some damned street,
anytown, oh 45555
usa.
I much prefer
John Smith,
123 Some Damned Street,
Anytown, OH 45555,
USA.
I do have an example that helps explain the need for capital letters.
For example, consider:
jack and jill went up the hill,
a riding on an elephant,
jill came down and
helped jack off the elephant.
To me the above is quite ambiguous, perhaps it should have been written as:
Jack and Jill went up the hill,
a riding on an elephant,
Jill came down and
helped Jack off the elephant.
Because a slight change in capitalization can still make the poem unambiguous:
Jack and Jill went up the hill,
a riding on an elephant,
Jill came down and
helped jack off the elephant.
Please be careful!
