It sickens me that there are so many selfish people who would prefer to let those less fortunate than themselves suffer with injury and disease. I grew up in a family where it was believed that we should help our fellow man and lend a hand when needed.
I don’t see this as a political issue but more of a human issue. Many people go to church each week and pray for forgiveness and portray themselves as fair and caring people where one person helps another, sometimes without question.
It’s a shame that this has polarized the population. I don’t believe that all Republicans feel that universal or perhaps more affordable healthcare is evil and it also appears that there are some Democrats who apparently would prefer to watch a friend or loved one die rather than share some of their personal wealth to help their fellow man.
Why should a family go bankrupt if one of them becomes seriously ill? It simply makes no sense.
I am for a more equal country where each person whether wealthy or poor can receive help when needed. We spend too much money helping others in other lands, let’s keep some of it here and help each other.
Chris,
While I agree that health care is a human right and universal coverage should be a goal of any society, there is no way that this bill or anything close to it will achieve either goal.
Mandating charity through government fiat has never worked well in any society…it does however provide politicians with incredible power over their people…all the while robbing them of their freedoms and liberties.
Our heath care system is broken. No doubt. But, it remains the best in the world…AND…NO ONE in America, even illegals are currently denied medical service because they do not have insurance or can not pay. Our problems are not those of quality and access but rather those of cost.
Why? In short, because of government interference. HMO’s were designed by Ted Kennedy to take the patient out of the shopping/paying/buying decision. So, the customer can not shop and compare prices…or even ask their doctor how much a service will cost….even doctor’s don’t know! This is wrong.
Another large percent of current costs are due to doctors having to pay exorbitant medical malpractice insurance premiums because Democrats refuse to support tort reform. Driving medical costs higher than those premiums are the costs associated with doctors practicing defensive medicine, again thanks to the trial lawyer lobby.
Right now, again thanks to politicians, there is no option to purchase heath insurance across state lines….which would increase competition and reduce costs…as would ending government mandates for everyone who buys insurance in a given state to cover pregnancy (even if you are a single male) aromatherapy, drug addiction, smoking cessation, sex change operations etc.
Government has it’s place….our health system is not it.
Our country is bankrupt. We can not even afford our current entitlements and yet our power hungry, elitest politicians keep whistling past the graveyard all the while promising well meaning citizens something for nothing in exchange for their vote.
It can not continue and must be stopped.
Free market reforms are the only way that we can lower costs and improve access without destroying our country.
