A moment not to be forgotten; in the sixties there was a carpet cleaning product called “GloryTM”. It came in a spray can. To use it, one would turn the can over so that the top is towards the bottom and much like canned whipped cream, press the nozzle sideways and a ball of white foam would exit the canister.
There was always a can under the sink for clean-ups. Mum would squirt some on a stain or spot on the carpet, scrub the foam a little, wait for it to dry and vacuum up later. One day Mum bought a super giant economy sized can of GloryTM and proceeded to clean an area in front of our fireplace.
The family was all over the house in various rooms and each of us could hear my Mum’s laugh. No one laughed like my mother. One by one we gathered at the entrance to the living room to see my mother in the midst of the biggest pile of GloryTM foam that anyone had ever seen. The foam ball was getting larger and my 4 ft. 11 in. soaking wet mother was beginning to disappear. The nozzle on the can had stuck open and she had been unable to close it. Frustration turned to laughter. We began to laugh as well.
My Mum died a few years ago, but I’ll always remember her with Glory all around!
